The most popular waterfalls of India, Dudhsagar Falls are located in the Indian state of Goa. It is one of the tallest waterfalls in India with a height of 310 m (1017 feet). Dudhsagar Falls is located on the Madgaon-Belgaum railway line on the Mandovi river near the Goa-Karnataka border.

•Where is Dudhsagar Falls Located? –
Dudhsagar Falls is located in the Indian state of Goa. Dudhsagar Falls is on the Madgaon-Belgaum railway line at a distance of 55 km from Madgaon and 80 km from Belgaum. The nearest railway station from this waterfall is Kulem 12 km and Castle Rock 14 km.
• How to Reach Dudhsagar Falls –
As Dudhsagar Falls is in a dense forest, there is no direct route to visit there. There are 3 distinct ways to visit this waterfall.
• By Road –
There is a road from Kulem to Dudhsagar Falls base camp, but as this road passes through the wildlife sanctuary, private vehicles do not have access to this place. Jeep safari is the only option to get to this place.
It takes 30-40 minutes to reach the base camp from the jeep. If you are lucky, you will spot a lot of wildlife on this safari. The charges per person for jeep safari are above Rs.500. Distance from Madgaon to Kulem is 45 Km. The waterfall is open to the tourist from Oct to May.
• By Train –
Trains are available from both Karnataka and Goa State to reach Dudhsagar Falls. The nearest railway stations from Dudhsagar Waterfalls are Kulem (Goa State) and Castlerock (Karnataka State).
Some trains stop at Sonalium station, 3 km away from this waterfall. So it will be convenient for you to come back from there. Also, some trains stop at Dudhsagar station (rarely stops for a few minutes)
So plan your trip to this waterfall only after getting complete information about the trains. Also, find out which trains are available/timing of the train on their way back as there is no mobile network near this waterfall.

If you are going to this waterfall from Goa, start trekking from Kulem railway station. The distance from Kulem to this waterfall is 12 km.
If you are going to this waterfall from Karnataka, start trekking from Castlerock railway station. The waterfall is 14 km from Castlerock.
Recently, the railway police have banned walking on the railway tracks. Official access to this area by walking on railway tracks has also been banned.
Alighting Dudhsagar Railway Station & walk on the railway track is prohibited. Defaulter will be prosecuted U/SEC 147 of Railway Act – 1989 (6 Months Jail or 1000 Rs fine or Both )

There are few hotels near Sonalium station (3 Km from falls) where you can get food items & beverages. There is no accommodation near this waterfall. The nearest place to stay is Dudhsagar Spa Resort, which is at a distance of 16 km from the waterfall. There is a cafe near the resort where both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are served.

Dudhsagar Falls is located in Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park. This place is rich in biodiversity. Lots of wildlife species are found in this place.
Many rare species of wild animals & plants are found in this sanctuary. Many wildlife species such as Tiger, Leopard, Indian Bison, Giant Squirrel, King Cobra, Indian Rock Python, Hump-Nosed Pit Viper, Bluebirds, Wagtails, Golden Oriole, Great Indian Hornbill are found in Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary.
The total area of Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary is about 200 sq km. In 1978, the sanctuary was declared as National Park. The core area of this National Park (Mollem National Park) is 107 Sq Km.

1) Railway police have banned people from walking on railway tracks. So avoid walking here.
2) It is better to go for pre-booking at this place in season, otherwise it will take a long time for jeep booking.
3) Do not litter in the sanctuary or near the waterfall. Ex: Do not throw plastic bottles or other garbage elsewhere.
4) Wear a life jacket before going for a swim in the waterfall/pool.
5) Avoid feeding monkeys at waterfalls.
6) Wear gumboots during the monsoon. Carry salt or tobacco to get rid of leeches.
