     Marleshwar is an important pilgrimage site surrounded by nature. This shrine is located in Sangameshwar taluka of Ratnagiri district. This place is very charming in the Sahyadri range. There is an awakened Shivling of Lord Shiva in a cave here. There is a beautiful waterfall near the temple.
     Many devotees and tourists visit this place as the Shivling in Marleshwar is awake. The area is full of natural beauty, and the beauty of the waterfall is also very attractive.     Marleshwar Temple is an ancient Shiva temple built in a cave. To get to this place, there is a road to the foot of the mountain. There are more than 520 steps to reach the temple from here. The magnificent Dhareshwar waterfall is clearly visible from the courtyard of the temple. This place is one of the most beautiful places in Konkan.

     This place is visited by many devotees during Mahashivaratri and Sankranti. Yatra is performed here on Makar Sankranti, about 1-2 lakh devotees come here for Yatra. This place is also important for trekking so many trekkers visit this place. Sand Boa a Non-Venomous Snake is found in the cave of the temple. Surrounded by forests, captivating views, and peaceful surroundings, Marleshwar is overwhelming. This temple is at a distance of 18 km from Devrukh village in Sammeshwar taluka.

Marleshwar Legend – 

      It is said that Lord Parshuram established this temple. There is a legend about this temple. During the reign of the Shilahar dynasty, many immoral acts took place. At that time, the god Marleshwar disappeared. When Anirao Salunkhe, the chief of Anavali, went hunting in 1800, he saw Lord Shiva in a cave. The day Marleshwar was discovered was the day of Makar Sankranti. Therefore, the festival of Marleshwara is celebrated on Sankranti. Palkhis come to Marleshwar from many villages. It is the custom of the devotees to bathe under the Dhareshwar waterfall and then go for darshan.

     Marleshwar is a place of pilgrimage situated in the mighty Sahyadri Ranges but is also very famous as a scenic place.

1) Marleshwar Temple – 

    Marleshwar Temple is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva built in a cave. There is a Shivling in this temple. This Shivalinga is said to have been established by Lord Parshuram. Snakes can sometimes be seen inside the temple. Because this temple is in a cave, you have to bend to get here. The air in the cave is a little cooler than the air outside. Sometimes it can even feel like suffocation when you go inside. The atmosphere in the temple is very calm.

2) Dhareshwar Waterfalls –

     This waterfall is clearly visible from the temple courtyard. This beautiful and captivating waterfall is the main attraction of this place. During the rainy season, this waterfall has a lot of water. Many trekkers visit this place to see this waterfall. During the rainy season, many small and large springs flow along with this waterfall. At that time, the view of these places is never to be forgotten.

3) Side Scenery – 

     The beauty of this place is also very captivating as it is situated in the hills. There are 520 steps leading from the road to the temple. So the only option here is to walk. But even on foot, the surroundings are so beautiful and charming that we don’t even know when we reach the temple. The surrounding scenery is invaluable for photography. The beauty of the green hills and the springs flowing through them in the rainy season is very divine.

    Marleshwar is a scenic spot in the Konkan region nestled in the foothills of the Sahyadri mountain range. It is located in Sangameshwar taluka of Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra India.

Nearest Cities –  Kolhapur 100 Km, Ratnagiri 70 Km, Pune 280 Km, Mumbai 350 Km.

How to Reach Marleshwar – 

     There is no direct road to Marleshwar Temple. To get to this place, there is a road to the foot of the mountain. There are more than 520 steps to reach the temple from here. 

By Road – There are two ways to reach this place, one is Devrukh – Hatav – Maral – Marleshwar Route. and the other is Ambaghat – Bamnoli – Maral – Marleshwar Route.

By Bus – To reach this place, one has to come to Devrukh first. The distance from Sangameshwar to Devrukh is about 20 km. There are some buses as well as rickshaws available from Devrukh to this place.

By Railway – The nearest railway station to this place is Sangameshwar Railway Station. The distance from Sangameshwar Railway Station to this place is 40 km.

Festivals of Marleshwar – 

    Many festivals are celebrated in this place with great enthusiasm. On the day of festivals, this place is full of devotees. The two festivals of Makar Sankranti and Mahashivaratri are very important to this place. On this day a large number of devotees come here. Girijadevi and Marleshwar are believed to have got married on the day of Makar Sankranti. This day is celebrated with great joy by the devotees. Yatras are also organized at this place on Mahashivaratri and Tripurari Pournima.

     The rainy season is the best time to visit this place. In the rainy season, the scenery here is very captivating and beautiful.   2. Do not litter on the trek’s route.
  3. Carry protection for photographic and electronic equipment during the monsoon.
